Michigan – GivemShelter.org recognizing the greatest surge in demand since the great depression for shelter beds has just signed a purchase agreement to acquire up to 14,000 hostel rooms for $ 58.5 Million U.S. Dollars. The agreement includes delivery provisions including an initial delivery requirement of 3,500 hostel rooms followed by non-binding arrangements for the remaining 10,500 hostel rooms. The cost is expected to be paid for with joint partnerships between church groups and local businesses, with a pre-defined program for those partners to recover all of the costs.

The organization commented “This is a great example of how the homeless and those in need can realize help from not just non profits but also the partnerships of not for Profits and for Profit Businesses with all involved receiving something positive in return.”

Midway through 2010, Adam Brandt came up with the word bloomsayer to encourage people to find a happier place in a world full of doom and gloom. In a few short months bloomsayer has became the foundation for a global movement to make the world a better place.

Adam says, shortly after Thanksgiving he realized that “giving” is the one thing that puts a smile on everyone’s face. That realization transformed bloomsayer from a word to a mission.

The mission found traction when locating the global giving project which connects donors with hundreds of charities.

Tigger, a 13-year-old cat is looking for a place she can finally call home, after spending 365 days at Wood Green Animal Shelters.
The tabby coloured beauty originally arrived at the London Shelter on December 31, 2009 from a multi-cat household.
However, after being overlooked by hundreds of potential rehomers, Tigger was transferred to the Heydon Shelter in March 2010 before being moved to the Godmanchester Shelter in April 2010 where he quietly remains with paws crossed that he will one day find his forever home.
Deputy Head of Cat Welfare Jane Harrup said: “Tigger is a sweet boy who came to the Charity from a multi-cat household. Although he was a little shy at first, he now loves a warm corner to snuggle up in and enjoys a tummy and back scratch. He needs a quiet loving home where he can get lots of attention.
“Tigger is one of our oldest cats and with 365 days under his belt, most certainly the cat who has stayed with us the longest. We really hope someone will see passed his age and give him the best start to the New Year.”

2011 is an exciting time for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC.  It marks 31 years of service in the DC region, their 14th anniversary in hosting a charity walking event and their inaugural year in hosting the Red Shoe 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser.

IT Works’ Women’s Empowerment Program in Israel Launches New Courses
The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles Supports the Job Placement Program
     
Tel Aviv, Israel— IT Works, an independent charity operating throughout Israel since 2006 that implements vocational training programs for a variety of disadvantaged populations in Israeli society, announces four new courses and a job placement program beginning in January 2011as part of their Women’s Empowerment Program (WEP.) The new courses are generously supported by The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, California, USA, with an $180,000 grant.

“We are delighted to support IT Works,” said Marvin Schotland, president and CEO of The Foundation. “The Women’s Empowerment Program is providing effective technology training and job placement services that is filling a vital need in underserved communities in Israel.”

The courses, two in 2011 and two in 2012, will empower over 80 women with technological training to help them integrate into the Israeli labor force with skilled entry-level jobs.  WEP, started in 2006, is designed for women ages 18 to 35 from the social and geographic periphery, who are either unemployed or are working in unskilled, low-wage positions. The intensive eight month program, which works with employers from the start of the program, teaches participants advanced technological skills, leading to a Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) certificate.

In addition, the course provides extensive professional development skills to teach participants how to secure a job, including: resume writing, interview preparation, how to search for a job and their rights as women in the workplace through empowerment training. The distinguishing concept of WEP is a six month job placement period, in which participants are assisted by IT Works’ staff in finding secure skilled-employment in the technological sector. This unique strategy ensures long-term economic self-sufficiency.

“WEP aims to be the “starting point” for these women by helping them build the foundation for a career. The program’s main objective is to place these women into the skilled job market in Israel- these women, the majority of whom have been unemployed for many years, would most likely remain  dependent on the state for many years without this opportunity,” said Ifat Baron, Founder and Executive Director of IT Works. “We are grateful for the generous support of The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles for making these courses a reality.”

Recruitment for the courses began in early December. IT Works’ staff is involved with local youth and community centers and interviews women who qualify to see their interest level and commitment. The course is free but IT Works requires a deposit, which is given back in full as soon as participants secure a job. The first course will launch in January 2011 in Jerusalem and will include women from the Orthodox community. The second course will take place in February 2011 in Hadera, a town with a large Ethiopian community.

WEP Overview:

- WEP is designed for women ages 18 to 35 from the social and geographic periphery of Israel.
- Program participants reflect the cultural diversity within Israel. WEP is open to all women irrespective of their race, religion or educational background.
- WEP participants demonstrate high learning potential and motivation for personal and professional growth.
- Courses are opened in economically underdeveloped areas with high unemployment rates.  
- The distinguishing concept of the Women’s Empowerment Program is a strategy of job training and job placement.
- WEP has a current job placement rate of 70 percent.
Since its inception in 2006, over three hundred women have successfully completed WEP.

We had an interview with Rich Women and shared what we were doing on Facebook and Twitter and within 1 month we had over 100 clients all coming via word of mouth.

April – We invested in Sean Beans next new film “Clean Skin”. We became Business Angels for 3 other companies when we went along to find out what they do and if we can get involved.

May – We invested in a Brazillian Housing Programme, which works with the Brazillian Government to bring housing to Brazillians.

June – We sponsored the album for up and coming music artist “TigerLilly”. Ran the “Race for Life” in London to raise money for Cancer Research.

August – We invited you to appear in the film or get your products seen in the film for “Clean Skin”

September – We gave away tickets to the Film Premiere starring Julia Roberts ” Eat, Pray, Love. Modelling opportunities with great companies. VIP Celebrity Night out at Mary Janes in Aldgate covered by OK Magazine, and hosted by ITV’s Giles Vickers Jones to see the video launch to “Affair” for our very own music artist www.tigerlillymusic.co.uk.  For www.maginternational.org We helped tip Giles Vickers Jones over the edge .

Christoph’s A.L.L. Stars started in Northville, Mich., by Christoph Bartschat, as a teen, while undergoing cancer treatments at Children’s Hospital. The funds raised support childhood cancer research at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
