Ethos Group Co, Bright Eyes Drops Raising fund for Charity

Many other eye drop suppliers are now trying to cash in on the phenomenal success of our Bright Eyes drops and are exploiting our features, testimonials and press coverage saying that they relate to their products which is blatantly untrue! If it does not say Ethos Endymion Bright Eyes on the Label, have Peter Aldred’s Photograph and the CE Standard Mark of Approval on,  then it is most definitely NOT the same product. Purchasing these less expensive copy-cat products may lead you to very disappointing results…

Milifidel Announces Sponsorship of Mixed Martial Artist Antonio “Mandingo” McKee

Milifidel, in association with the West Los Angeles Fisher House, sponsored Antonio “Mandingo” McKee for his debut fight on January 1st, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada at UFC 125. With a professional MMA record of 25-3-2 Antonio entered the octagon wearing the logo of the West Los Angeles Fisher House on his shorts as he faces his opponent Jacob Volkmann.

The entire Milifidel clothing line is made and designed with pride here in the US. The stunning collection is printed on high quality fabric for both men and women, with a mid-range price point. The clothing brand was designed fusing powerful imagery and patriotic nuances to pay homage to the generations of soldiers who have fought and who still fight to this day for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With the million-dollar goal in mind, a percentage of all Milifidel sales will be contributed directly to the West Los Angeles Fisher House. A portion of the proceeds from all shirt sales will benefit the West Los Angeles Fisher House, which helps the families of soldiers whom are recovering from hospitalization.

The Fisher house was founded in 1990 and currently provides services to over 10,000 families of military veterans a year and has at least one program at every major military base. Families of injured soldiers whom are temporarily incapacitated seek help from the Fisher House so that they can stay by their side during their care and recovery. The
Fisher House provides family members home cooked meals, access to peaceful surroundings such as libraries and gardens, as well as comfort and support from the staff and other families while their beloved soldier undergoes treatment at a nearby VA facility.

Writers Band Together To Save Struggling Borders Bookstore Chain With New Anthology

Things look pretty grim for Borders, the #2 brick-and-mortar book retailer in America — and for the US publishing industry that supplies Borders.

You’ve seen the headlines:

“Borders: Getting Closer to the Bookseller’s Final Chapter (Daily Finance)”
“Borders Distributor Halts Shipments to Chain: Report (ABC News)”
“Borders shares plummet after it discloses cash crisis (LA Times)”

“The dissolution of Borders means a sizable chunk of the trade book business, somewhere around 10% of overall market, will vanish overnight. And that will affect publishers’ bottom lines and force them to make decisions they may not have wanted to, or would regret,” Sarah Weinman reports for AOL Daily Finance.

Obama could bail out Borders. Publishing has to be as important an industry to this country as the auto industry. Right? *cough, cough*

Clearly, the only solution is for authors to band together to write a charity anthology to save Borders from bankruptcy! The working title is WRITERS WITHOUT BORDERS: REQUIEM FOR A BOOKSTORE.

Author and Order of St. Nick creative director Andrew Shaffer conceived of the charity anthology after learning of the retailer’s troubles. “Although chain bookstores get a lot of bad press, Borders is an important part of many communities,” he says. “Borders and Barnes & Noble are the only bookstores selling new books where I live [along the Iowa and Illinois border]. The closest independent bookstore is fifty miles away.”

EvilReads, Order of St. Nick’s publishing imprint, is looking for short fiction, non-fiction, or poetry with a Borders bookstore somewhere in the submission. Word count is limited to 3k words. Interested writers are encouraged to visit http://www.evilreads.com/save-borders for full submission guidelines.

All proceeds from the sale of the WRITERS WITHOUT BORDERS: REQUIEM FOR A BOOKSTORE anthology will go to Borders.*

Submissions will be accepted through April 1st, 2011, with a tentative publication date set for Fall 2011.

*In the event that Borders shutters its doors or is sold or simply doesn’t accept a cashier’s check for the proceeds, all proceeds will be donated to Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children’s literacy non-profit in the United States.

The Red Carpet Events Invites You To Terrell Owens Speakeasy Soiree

The Red Carpet Events has the pleasure of planning the “Terrell Owens Speakeasy Soiree”, a night filled with mystique, celebrity guests and glamour reminiscent of the opulent Roaring Twenties. This prohibition inspired celebration will take place at The Blind Barber (339 East 10th Street, NY, NY) on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. All proceeds will be donated to benefit The Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. NFL star receiver and Alzheimer’s Celebrity Ambassador, Terrell Owens expressed, “Alzheimer’s is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States and Alzheimer’s has affected my own family, so I understand firsthand the impact of this disease. I am proud to support the Alzheimer’s Association, as they educate people on the realities of Alzheimer’s disease so we can inspire enough support to stop it.”

The authentic concept created by The Red Carpet Events will transport guests to the turn of the century as they enter an unassuming East Village barbershop and are magically whisked back into time. Walking past rows of illuminated candelabras, an elusive mixologist will be indulging guests with themed beverages complimenting the T.O. brand provided by Finlandia, Jack Daniels and Herradura Tequila. Custom hors d’ oeuvres created by Southern Hospitality will also leave guests begging for more bootlegging.  In addition, to ensure every prohibition law is broken, the evening will be filled with endless musical surprises, sexy cigarette girls, a cigar aficionado donned in a fedora, pinstripes and limited edition bow ties designed by NFL player Dhani Jones. Christy Bareijsza, the Founder and CEO of The Red Carpet Events, is thrilled to have her team planning this production for the NFL legend, “We are extremely proud to be supporting Terrell Owens and the generous sponsors in this honorable quest to help bring awareness to Alzheimer’s though such a creative outlet. Terrell’s humanitarian efforts off the field exemplify a genuine strength and heartfelt compassion that often does not receive the proper credit and we are humbled to be chosen to be part of this memorable evening.” Tickets are extremely limited; please go to www.terrellowens.com for further details.

IGNOTINE ANTI-AGING

Many different Studies have shown that Ignotine is a major tool in the fight against aging and degenerative disease. It is found in all cells, but in higher quantities in muscles, heart, kidney and brain cells. As we age, optimum conversion from dietary sources becomes inefficient. In studies, the longer living animals had more of it in their cells. Ignotine is a naturally occurring product in our food. But with the passing of time it decreases, this is believed to be one of the primary factors leading to the aging process. The human body has an optimum design factor of over 120 years, but few people live beyond their 80′s. Ignotine, when introduced into the body’s cells, has been shown to rejuvenate the cells; in essence, it is working as an anti-aging agent from within our cell structure.

Looking to Give Back in 2011? VolunteerMatch Makes It Easy

It’s a new year, and millions of Americans are pledging to volunteer in 2011. If getting involved at a local organization is one of your resolutions, here’s an invitation to get started at http://www.volunteermatch.org. With more than 60,000 active listings from U.S. nonprofits, VolunteerMatch is the easiest way to find and connect with charities that are making a difference where you live.

From the Snow Belt to the Sun Belt, more organizations list their volunteer needs at VolunteerMatch than anywhere else. Since the site launched in 1998, millions of volunteers have signed up to care for the sick, clean our parks, help animals and any number of great projects. VolunteerMatch works because the service is easy: Kids, parents, and older adults can simply type in their location and a few words describing the kind of work they’d like to do. Then just click “I want to help,” and get ready to be involved.

So what’s our prediction for 2011 volunteering? In a word: innovative! This coming year volunteers will have more opportunities to help more organizations than ever before – including ways to give back without ever leaving home.

Here are a few ideas to get your New Year’s resolution started right:

* Virtual Volunteering – If you can’t participate in person this year, no problem. There are thousands of ways to help as a virtual volunteer. For example, you can do graphic design to help cure cancer, “adopt a mom” to help birth mothers adjust after adoption, or translate Spanish to save turtles.

* Voluntourism – If the daily grind has you running to the airport to get away from it all, consider a trip that will allow you to fuel your travel bug while also indulging in philanthropic possibilities. “Voluntourism” combines domestic or international travel with community involvement, enabling you to see more of the real world while also helping to solve local problems. At VolunteerMatch, look for trips from Cross-Cultural Solutions, among other agencies.

* Go Micro – You probably haven’t heard of “microvolunteering” yet. It’s a new type of volunteering where nonprofits slice and dice a project up so that it’s super-convenient, bite-sized, and crowd-friendly. At VolunteerMatch, keep an eye open for projects like updating a map of oil slick impacts, contributing your info for a health survey, or tagging these images from Flickr.

* Make a Date – The calendar is dotted with nationally recognized service days that provide great opportunities to become involved or organize your family or friends to get involved. MLK Day of Service is coming up on January 17, but don’t forget about National Volunteer Week n April and Family Volunteer Day in November.

Here at VolunteerMatch, our resolution for 2011 is to make it easier than ever for you to make a difference. With 200 new participating organizations joining our community each week, we’re confident you’ll find something to match your passions.

To get involved with these and many other opportunities, visit:

Bionic Ear Show Scores in Stoke on Trent

Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy in Blurton will be playing host to the innovative 2011 Bionic Ear Roadshow, from national charity Deafness Research UK on 14 January. Sponsored by BUPA and the BIG Lottery Fund, a unique performance featuring the world’s largest ear aims to teach pupils about how important and delicate their hearing is and to remind them of the risks they face to their hearing from loud music, among other important educational messages about hearing.

The Bionic Ear Show has been designed to raise awareness of the dangers that many of us are unwittingly exposing our hearing to, and for young people in particular about limiting exposure to loud music by turning down the volume on MP3 players. Hearing is as precious as sight (a fact people only recognise when they are faced with losing it), so there will be demonstrations of what it sounds like to have high frequency hearing loss, plus “Guess that tune” – allowing students to appreciate how easy or hard it is for people with cochlear implants (so-called “bionic ears”) to recognise everyday music.

As well as the serious underlying message about hearing loss, the show is great fun and features among other things “the world’s largest ear!” During the show, the presenter constructs a model to highlight the different parts of the ear, which is over 22ft long and 116 times the size of a normal human ear! Through this interactive and entertaining demonstration, pupils will learn how the ear works, what can go wrong and what can be done to put things right.

Delivering the roadshow’s message into schools is an opportunity to engage pupils in these issues via interactive activities. In Stoke-on-Trent, the aim is to ensure the next generation is not faced with the prospect of preventable deafness. Developed for audience participation, the message of the show is easy to understand and no specialist scientific knowledge is required to enjoy the spectacle.

The show will be taking place at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy on Friday 14 January between 9.20pm and 2.40pm. The show will be taking its message and its giant ear to several other schools in the rest of the country throughout the year.

“While the revolution in MP3 and phone technology has given us the benefit of music on the move, an unwelcome side effect is we are pumping up the volume into our ears and at a far earlier age than ever before,” said Vivienne Michael, Chief Executive of Deafness Research UK. “The fear is many of us are unwittingly ‘downloading deafness’ and playing music at such high volume that we risk permanent deafness and tinnitus sooner than would be expected simply as a result of old age.

“One of the key messages the Bionic Ear Show is taking to schools is not to stop children using MP3 players, but to listen to their favourite sounds safely,” continued Vivienne. “Turning the volume down slightly is such a simple thing to do and will enable today’s generation to continue to enjoy their music for years to come.”

The Bionic Ear Show appeals to all ages and also includes free hearing tests along with other interesting and informative demonstrations about how the ear works, and how to protect your hearing.  With the support of BUPA, the 2010 Bionic Ear Show will be coming to a town, city or school near you so please contact Deafness Research UK if you would like the Show to come to your school, community group or event. Bookings can be made by calling Laura Ganpot on 020 7679 8951 or email Laura at bionicearshow@deafnessresearch.org.uk The schedule is subject to change, but an up to date version and further information can be found on the website at: www.bionicearshow.org

Notes to editors

Full details on the schools taking part are available on request.

About the Bionic Ear Show

The Bionic Ear Show continues the campaign first launched in 2006 to highlight that hearing is as important as sight and to encourage people to protect their ears against potential damage. In launching the campaign, Deafness Research UK is stressing that young people today are at far greater risk of going prematurely deaf than their parents because they are listening to mobile phones and MP3 players at far too loud a volume and far too often.

A national survey found that over a third of all 16-34 year olds listened to their MP3 players for more than an hour a day and 14% listened for more than 28 hours a week. It also showed that 54% of people did not realise that listening to loud music on an MP3 player, in a nightclub or at a concert could damage their hearing.

More than a third of people who have experienced ringing in their ears after listening to loud music listen to their MP3 player every day. Ringing in the ears, or tinnitus, is a sign of damage to the hearing system.
